Engine Type

The Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225 have air cooled, two-stroke single cylinder. This type of engine allows air circulation over the hot areas of the engine so that they remain within operating temperatures.

Fuel Type

The Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225 use a combination of gasoline and two-stroke oil.

Throttle Trigger

For ease of use, the Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225 have a throttle trigger which makes it easier to control the power depending on what you are trimming.

Uses

The Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225 uses a Speed Feed 400 LH nylon line head, which has a 20 ft capacity.  This nylon line is ideal for strimming grass. It also uses an 8-tooth blade which can be sharpened. Having the option to use the metal blades means you can cut back things that are a little tougher than grass.

Handles

There are two handles with the Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225. There is a front loop and a rear handle. For larger jobs, there is an optional shoulder strap.

Vibrations

You need to be careful using a strimmer/brush cutter not only for the noise but also for the vibrations. To help with this, the Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225 have a heavy-duty rubber cushion on the engine mount as well as a rubber grip on the front handle to reduce vibrations.

Echo SRM 225

It is 70.6 x 9.88 x 12.9 inches, again, without the cutter head. The weight is the same at 11.2 pounds.

Fuel Tank Capacity

It’s a small detail but will mean you don’t have to stop to refill the fuel tank as often. Both fuel tanks have a clear window so you can see the level.

  • The attachment of the shoulder strap would be stronger

The Final Verdict

Echo is an outstanding brand for garden equipment and there is no doubt about the durability of the Echo SRM 230 and the Echo SRM 225. It is highly recommended that you take good care of these strimmer/brush cutters in terms of maintenance to make sure they remain in top condition. And you should read the safety instructions too.

There were some things that were very similar like the appearance and the weight is the same. They are both easy to use and quite comfortable, even after a while. Despite the similarities, the overall winner is the Echo SRM 225. It was a little more reliable on the startup and often on with fewer pulls. We also found that it was a little better at cutting through some of the tougher weeds, brush and saplings. The Echo SRM 225 is an excellent machine at great value for money.
